The car I reserved was not available. I was offered something else (small SUV) that I did not want. Suddenly, a car was available. Inside of the car was clean, outside was dirty. I had to give information to the counter clerk that was already in my profile. Counter person had a bad attitude. I almost walked away to another car rental counter. Upon return, the counter person was different with good attitude. First National rental in a long, long time. Probably the last - ever.
It took 45 minutes for someone to send me on a wild goose chase to find a dirty car. They were apparently short on cars and offered me a dirty one in an effort to get me out quickly. Midland Texas return lot is too small. No spots left to drop off car. Just parked and left it in a no parking area. No one in lot to direct chaos. Horrible experience.
Had a great rental experience at National Car Rental. Was given an upgrade of a Cadillac bumped up from standard rental. What a great ride at a very low price. Keep up the good work National and I will be back!
The National Car Rental experience in Midland is not a good one. All the National advertisements on "control" or "picking your own car" do not apply in the Midland-Odessa branch. Many times you show up, wait in line with your mid-size reservation, only to find out, "We have a Nissan Versa for you today. I hope that is OK." It really does remind you of a Seinfeld episode. Then you get to enjoy walking a block or two to find your dirty car in slot B-19. Like I said, it is not what you come to expect from National.
I have been a long time National rent-a-car user traveling relatively frequently for work. I've never had an issue any further than a minor inconvenience. That said, I've had my single worse rental experience ever from National Midland, TX. Upon landing, I waited over an hour and a half for a car making me miss the first meeting of my intended purpose for being in Midland. When I received my car, there was no discussion about return, or what the process was since they did not have a secure lot. I returned to the airport at 4:50 AM, and found the return lot, parked, and left the keys in it. I got a phone call 3 days later from National requesting their car back. I told them (in detail, to the exact parking spot) where I left it. The whole experience was miserable. The staff was not rude by any means, but it felt like they were in total disarray. I'll be renting form elsewhere next time, as I feel this experience was bad enough to give another company a chance.
