My engine light came on in my Jeep Rubicon. I decided to take it to Lone Star Automotive thinking the cost would be less than the dealer. Boy was I wrong! I had them do the diagnostic test, and it was found that I would need to replace the computer control unit (PCM). I was advised that this part would be $1,900. I asked why it costs so much, and they advised me that it was because it had to come from the dealer. In essence, the total cost for this part and installation and programming would run a little over $2,800. After I came out of the shock of the price for this repair, I called the local Jeep dealership here in Midland and was advised the part was $1,310.00. and the installation and programming would be $250.00. Totally blew away my assumption that the dealerships would be much more. I can't see how they stay in business with prices almost double the price of dealerships!
