The chips and salsa earned the second star, but the bathrooms are why I won't be back.
Food is great!! And so are the drinks.. but I think the staff is mad at us for some reason! Feeling kinda awkward.. we are being super nice but maybe it's there down time and they don't want us here...
The skillet was shaped like a Pringles chip, upturned on two sides, and allowed all grease to drain from the dish. Also on the skillet was white ash, presumably from the fire it was in to get that hot.
Oh gosh, where to start? Let's start with the chips and salsa (free and good), served with an unhappy look when you don't want "an additional appetizer." The prices of everything have steadily gone up, while taste and size have just as steadily gone down. The worst thing I've ever had there was today: Dos XX Fish Tacos. Now, I knew better, but so many people rave over them that I foolishly ordered one as part of a combo. Imagine a Mrs Paul's greasy breaded fish fillet topped with a handful of carrot-filled dry slaw, and placed on a stiff, cold, store-bought flour tortilla with a smear of SOMETHING on it, and all topped with some sad, elderly tomato bits. For this, you pay 99¢ more. WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?
While the salsa was good, it came on small plates half as large as a single chip. I wanted to try the green salsa, but that is only made for the weekend.
Cons:
If I could give a zero, I would. We went in today, Saturday Sept. 2nd around 1:30 in the afternoon, and were seated. After 20 minutes of being looked at and ignored we got up and left. We never had anyone to come tell us it would be few minutes, drink orders were not taken.... NOTHING! I could have understood if they were busy, but there were people at one other booth and some people seated at a table that WAS being waited on in the area in which we were seated. The waiter waiting on the table looked our direction I don't know how many times, and as soon as he took all the orders he disappeared never to be seen or heard from again. There was a waitress that came and waited on the people in the booth behind us (they came in AFTER we were seated and had been sitting for 10 minutes) and took drink orders and laughed with the customers seated in the booth, and after orders were taken with them the waitress also disappeared and was never seen or heard from again. OH! By the way....she had ALSO looked our way several times! We sat for 10 more minutes trying to be patient and think someone would be back. We finally left, but before I walked out I did get the attention of a waiter as he was sitting other customers and let him know since NO ONE had bothered to wait on us, speak to us or anything, we were leaving. It's ok though...we went and found some other Mexican food that was every bit as good as On the Border AND we were able to get WAITED ON!!! Last time we ate at this OTB it took a few minutes for a waitress to finally show up at the table but at least she did get our drinks and order. I doubt we will be back anytime soon.
Great seating friendly staff awsome food good mix drinks and beers awsome for a double date
Lastly, the bathrooms were neglected. The two toilets I saw were unflushed. One was leaking at the handle, so I was able to convince myself it was mostly water on the floor. Even the walls were dirty.
Pros:
When my fajitas came out, the weirdly shaped skillet they arrived on was hot enough and the fajitas dry enough that the fajitas had begun to burn. I was unlucky to be sitting where the fans blew the smoke into my face until I moved the fajita skillet to the empty seat at the table to finish charring. Some of the vegetables that had came completely cooked I got to watch burn and blacken on the overheated skillet.
The chips and salsa were good. The chips came in large baskets and there were plenty. The fajitas tasted ok, but dry.
